The ultimate in unstable training that will rock your core and find, then strengthen, your weakest spots.
Aqua Bags are a bit like the adage about good news and bad news. On the one hand they are soft and forgiving, making Olympic lifting movement patterns far more accessible to the average lifter. On the other, Aqua Bags give you an insight into what it’s like Olympic lifting with a bar which has developed a fairly malicious life of its own.
A Power Bag is an uneven load whose centre of mass is constantly shifting, which requires the body to compensate by absorbing destabilising forces. The Aqua Bag has a similar, yet more extreme charm. To illustrate the difference between the two, roll both across the ground and watch them move. The Power Bag, because of the inertia of its filling, will come to a swift and sluggish stop. Try the same test with an Aqua Bag and you’ll notice the bag lurching and shifting at varying speeds in different directions, depending on the movement of the water inside. That lurching is a good way to picture the kind of active resistance you’ll be forced to contend with.
Most unstable devices, such as Swiss Balls, exert their destabilising forces from the ground up. In reality, however, most forms of physical activity exert destabilising forces from elsewhere. Aqua Bags exert similar forces under conditions more specific to a broader definition of athletic demand.
The Aqua Bag comes with both horizontal and vertical handles to allow both styles of grip, rather than just the one afforded by a barbell. And if there’s one thing you need to be sure of, it’s that you don’t make it onto YouTube after all twenty litres pour down on top of your head during the climactic clean-and-press in the middle of the gym. Aqua Bags are made from thick, super-durable vinyl; sealed and joined with the same technology used for building white-water rafts.
